About
My name is Brian Everstine. I am the night breaking news/general assignment reporter for The News Tribune. In that capacity, I cover breaking news in the South Sound area of Washington (Pierce, North Thurston and South King counties). In that capacity I file stories for the newspaper, the Web site and the award-winning Lights and Sirens blog. I also cover general assignments, which vary from slice of life features to long-term watchdog work. I started at the TNT as an intern in the summer of 2008.
Previously I served as pretty much everything at The Daily Evergreen at Washington State University, ending up as editor-in-chief. I studied political science at WSU, and am proud to not have a communication degree. I previously interned at the Tri-City Herald in Kennewick, Wash., and The Pacific Northwest Inlander in Spokane, Wash.
In addition to toiling away in the newsroom, I watch hockey, waste time on the internets and watch Star Wars far too many times.

Surved.

I’m sure that’s half served, half survived or something clever like that.

Very cool. I just recently started working for one of the three big newspaper companies. I’m pretty low on the totem poll, doing bar and club listings and entertainment writing. Every now and then I’ll get a story worth noting. But I do have a cubicle and my own computer, people stopped by to introduce themselves, but were cookieless. I’m actually doing less than I was when I interned for a smaller company, but alas, I feel lucky to be employed in the journalism field.
