KING5 sources say the P-I is reportedly to be put up for sale tomorrow, and if no buyers come up immediately, it will close.
Ouch.
While out on my marathon flood assignment yesterday (more on that later), I spent some time with a P-I photog. He was a good guy, talented and nice (which is more than I can say for some other newspaper/TV reporters/photogs I have encountered). It was surprising to see him out, since the P-I is much more city-focused as opposed to trying to be a state paper. We compete, but not that often. This was the first time I had seen a P-I staffer in the South Sound.
I hope the P-I pulls through. I am not really an avid reader of it – I check the site daily and glance over the paper. But they do great work. They are a Seattle and Washington institution and the citizens of Washington are better because of newspapers like the P-I watching out for them.
Even if it is the competition.
