On my first day at The News Tribune, McClatchy announced corporation-wide layoffs, and I thought that took all the energy out of the newsroom. But yesterday was another hard day, after the layoffs and after announcing wage freezes, the TNT now announced buyout offers to 80 percent of the newsroom, 50 percent of total staff, and a mandatory drop to a 37-hour work week.

Everyone knew it was coming. With this came more people telling me to get out of the business. I thought internships were supposed to make one excited about their careers, not try to scare and depress them out of it. Oh well, I am stupidly still convinced I can be nothing other than a journalist.

On another cynical note, does anyone else feel nauseated hearing the words hope, change, American hero and hockey mom? I find myself looking for news about how everyone is wrong now. Maybe it is a convention hangover. If anyone else feels this way, check out Foreign Policy’s list on why McCain and Obama are wrong. It’s a good read.
